It brings me great pleasure to introduce the latest edition of UL Links, now fully reimagined and presented in this new digital format. This transformation represents a significant milestone in our commitment to innovation and sustainability, values that are deeply ingrained in the fabric of our institution.

As we embark on this new chapter, it is imperative to reflect on the essence of our mission: to foster talent, drive impactful research, and address the pressing challenges of our time. The University sector plays a pivotal role in shaping the future by nurturing the minds that will tackle tomorrow’s challenges and lead on their solutions. Through this new approach to UL Links, we have the opportunity to showcase more widely some of the best examples of what University of Limerick has to offer, from groundbreaking research stories to inspiring profiles of our students, faculty, and alumni.

At the heart of our endeavours lies a steadfast commitment to sustainability and the communities we serve. UL has long been at the forefront of sustainability initiatives, pioneering efforts to integrate environmental consciousness into the many aspects of our operations. In previous editions of UL Links, we proudly attained Carbon Balanced certification in partnership with the World Land Trust, demonstrating our dedication to minimising our ecological footprint.

With this latest edition, we have taken our sustainability efforts even further. By transitioning to a fully digital format, we have offset the printing of over 20,000 kilograms of specialised paper and the associated carbon emissions. This shift not only reduces our environmental impact but also contributes to the preservation of critically threatened tropical forests, supporting an area of 2,441 square meters. Through this initiative, we are not only embracing technological innovation but also reaffirming our commitment to environmental stewardship.

As we navigate the complexities of the contemporary world, it is essential to share our discoveries, celebrate our achievements, and inspire others to join us in our pursuit of excellence. I encourage each member of our community and beyond to explore UL Links, to engage with the stories within, and to continue supporting us in advancing the collective mission of University of Limerick.
